Connections

Bring in the information your work needs, only as far as you permit.

A connection is how the files and sources your work needs reach the product. Every connection states in advance why it is needed, what it will read, what it will never change and how it is removed. This page explains; connecting your own account happens after sign-in, with your approval. Access depends on account permissions. Public sales are not open.

Access to connections

Controlled access

A file on your computer

A CSV or XLSX table you attach to your work (up to 6 MB).

What it reads: It reads only the file you choose: columns, delimiter, decimal separator, sheet names and values.

Controlled access

A multi-sheet table

In an Excel file with several sheets you choose which sheet the work uses.

What it reads: It reads the sheet you choose and leaves the others out of the work.

Controlled access

An institutional source

A shared table or source in the organization space; unit and role decide access.

What it reads: It reads the source within your authority; an administrator never sees your private work by itself.

Not offered yet

E-mail, storage and institutional systems

Connecting an account to its own data.

What it reads: Not offered in this release. A real connection needs separate permission and an agreement with that provider.

Rules that never change

  • A connection reads only the scope you choose and never widens by itself.
  • A connection never changes the data at your file's source.
  • For an institutional source, unit and role decide access; being an administrator is not the right to read every study.
  • When access is removed, prepared output and records are preserved while access closes.
  • Which connection was used in which work stays visible in the work record.

Connecting your own account

After signing in you set up the connection you want from the Connections section of your workspace, with your own approval. This page never opens a connection on your behalf.
