What happens when you arrive?

What does MMT take on for your work, how does it proceed, what stays in your hands?

The order below is not a mandatory wizard. Each study passes through the steps its need requires; sequence and scope depend on the work. Scientific reasoning and responsibility stay with you; repetitive preparation, tool operation, data transfer and scattered tracking are handed to MMT.

  1. Understanding the need and the current state

    Question, what you have, constraints and unknowns must be separated.

    Reads your description; separates known facts, points that need a decision and missing information; names the research and evidence required.

    What stays with you: You confirm the goal and scope and correct anything misunderstood.

    What is recorded: The work narrative, known facts and open questions.

  2. Sources, counter-sources and data paths

    Current studies, opposing findings and where data will come from must be visible.

    Investigates source candidates, reads what is retrieved and records verification state; lists options to find, acquire and prepare data with sufficiency and limits.

    What stays with you: You decide which source and data path to follow and add your own data, or give its public address to have it read.

    What is recorded: Source list with verification state; data file, preview and integrity record; where and when a file read from an address came from.

  3. Method options and your decision

    Alternatives compared with rationale, prerequisites and limits.

    Inspects the data with the verified reader; prepares suitable method options with why they are considered, which assumptions they rest on and which claims they do not allow.

    What stays with you: You choose the method, period and variables. The decision is recorded with its rationale; a changed plan or dataset never reuses an old decision silently.

    What is recorded: The decision request, the decision and its rationale.

  4. Running the tools and the recorded result

    The approved computation must actually run, and the result must say which data and parameters produced it.

    Runs the supported analysis with the local computation tool on the same data; writes diagnostics, unmet conditions and limits into the output. Numbers come from computation, not from a model.

    What stays with you: You read the output and diagnostics and interpret the result.

    What is recorded: Output, provenance (data, method, parameters, version) and receipt.

  5. Interpretation, counter-explanations, revision and continuation

    The result is interpreted, weak points are seen, documents and revisions stay in the same work.

    Adds new information to known facts, flags the affected decision for re-confirmation, prepares further research or computation in the same work and preserves history.

    What stays with you: You set the interpretation, the answer to counter-explanations and which result stands.

    What is recorded: Notes, renewed decisions, versions and lessons learned.

My expertise, equipment, data access and time are known; I want a direction that fits them and is genuinely worth the work.

You write down your expertise, resources, experimental means, goal and constraints. MMT records the capacity inventory; investigates current and counter literature; compares candidate directions with their grounds, required data or experiments and open uncertainties. What you keep: not a topic list: reasoned directions, supporting sources, the data or experiment each requires, and the unknowns.

Your role and continuation

You choose the direction; ethics, originality and new-data responsibility stay with you.

The chosen direction becomes question and scope work in the same job.

I know my question but have not fixed the period, variables, data source or method.

You write the question in your own words; you do not need data yet. MMT prepares scope, period and variable options; lists data-acquisition paths and sufficiency; explains suitable method options with prerequisites for each path. What you keep: research scope, a data-acquisition plan and method alternatives; which decision is expected from you.

Your role and continuation

You approve the scope and data path. You are never forced into a ready-made data form.

When data arrives, the same job moves to verification and the method decision.

You add the existing data and any earlier output and describe where you are stuck. MMT checks the file with the verified reader; joins the existing work; offers method options; runs the approved computation; writes diagnostics and limits. When data is missing, turn the gap into a research plan.

Identify the variables, sources or measurements needed. Compare a bounded analysis of existing data, public-source research or new data acquisition against time, cost, access and ethical conditions. A planned survey, experiment or field study is not collected data.

When reading documents the workspace uses plain text, CSV, JSON, text-containing PDF, Word (DOCX) and Excel (XLSX). Numerical analysis works with one CSV or XLSX table; the methods that can run today are Descriptive statistics, Stationarity tests, Linear regression (OLS, robust standard errors), Two group means (Welch or Student t), Two groups by ranks (Mann–Whitney U), Paired measurements (paired t), Paired by ranks (Wilcoxon), Panel fixed effects (within-entity association), Panel random effects (subject to measured consistency). Data adequacy and method approval are checked separately. R or another method can run only when its tool path is available and verified. Uploading code does not automatically execute it.

Limits: 6 MiB per file; up to 16 selected files and 20 MiB in one work step; 20 MiB of total file storage per account. Scanned PDFs have no OCR; DOCX reading covers main text and tables. Select an Excel sheet; formula-bearing sheets are not recalculated.

Turn critique into a question that can strengthen the work.

Which assumption is weak, which contrary evidence matters, and is another explanation possible? Examine claims through these questions. Connect reviewer feedback to the relevant text and evidence; distinguish clarification, further work and revision. Accessible current journal requirements can inform preparation; publication acceptance is not promised.

Record different people's input, pending replies and decisions in your work. Return to the earlier source, data used and reason for a change. This way of working also helps General MMT; it does not mean sharing user data or automatically training a model.
